Kwang Knoi School project
Before
After
In 2005/6 Kwang Knoi School requested help with the removal of an unhygienic and foul-smelling dump and the disposal of rubbish. The Ripple Effect funding the school received was used for a proper
disposable unit and a recycling system consisting of three bins placed near the incinerator, in which the children put recycling.
The children also bring from home glass, plastic and paper for collection by a recycling plant, in exchange for a small amount of money for each piece of rubbish they collect. This money then goes back to the children and their families. Whatever is left that cannot be recycled is put into the incinerator. The ash from the incinerator is then used as fertiliser/compost in the school gardens.
Baan Kwang Knoi School is a small primary school located in the province of Lamplaimat, approximately 45 minutes from Nang Rong. The facilities are basic although the Ripple Effect Team is always warmly welcomed and are proudly shown around the school.
The school has received minimal funding from the Government over recent years and many of the facilities have fallen into disrepair. A lunch program has been set up by Melbourne University where money is donated to go towards the costs for lunches for the children.
